Azure Virtual Machine Scale Sets (VMSS) allow users to create and manage groups of load-balanced virtual machines (VMs). Organizations that require high availability at scale utilize scale sets to ensure application resiliency.

With the flexible orchestration mode, customers can add standard Azure VMs to VM Scale Sets. However, Microsoft Azure reports these machines both as regular virtual instances and as scale set-specific instances, resulting in duplicate instance records in the CMDB. As a result, users may see duplicates in the 'Related Objects' section of a selected Azure VM Scale Set:.

To differentiate virtual machines machine types for reporting, address refer to the following fields:

  • VM Scale Set

  • VM Scale Set ID
