Differentiating Azure VMs and Azure VM SS Instances in Cloudaware CMDB
This article explains how to differentiate Azure VMs and Azure VM Scale Set instances in Cloudaware CMDB.

Azure Virtual Machine Scale Sets (VMSS) allow users to create and manage groups of load-balanced virtual machines (VMs). Organizations that require high availability at scale utilize scale sets to ensure application resiliency.
With the flexible orchestration mode, customers can add standard Azure VMs to VM Scale Sets. However, Microsoft Azure reports these machines both as regular virtual instances and as scale set-specific instances, resulting in duplicate instance records in the CMDB. As a result, users may see duplicates in the 'Related Objects' section of a selected Azure VM Scale Set.

To differentiate virtual machine types for reporting, refer to the following fields:
VM Scale Set
VM Scale Set ID
These fields indicate whether a virtual machine was originally created as part of an Azure VM Scale Set.
If the VM Scale Set fields are empty, it means the virtual machine was initially created as a standard Azure VM and later added to a scale set.
